Cardiology Department

Department of Cardiology caters to a huge number of heart disease patients with simple to complex conditions on a daily basis. Such patients often have multiple co-morbid conditions and usually require multidisciplinary patient care. Since Liaquat National Hospital is a tertiary care hospital, the cardiac patients have the facility of being looked after by the consultants from various disciplines. Likewise, well trained cardiology consultants provide cardiac facilities to patients who are admitted in other medical and surgical disciplines. We have one of the largest private Coronary Care Unit in Karachi.

The Department of Cardiology runs a state-of-the-art Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit in collaboration with Department of Physiotherapy. Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program to help heart patients recover quickly and improve their overall physical, mental and social capability. The goal is to stabilize, slow or even reverse the progression of cardiovascular diseases. Rehab programs include exercise, training, education on heart healthy living, and counseling to reduce stress and help in returning to an active life.
Our Accident and Emergency department has a skillfully trained team of paramedics, nursing staff and doctors to deal with any cardiac emergency. The team is present round the clock to manage the patients having heart diseases such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and arrhythmias (rhythm disturbances) which can pose a serious threat to patient’s life.
The non-invasive diagnostic lab consists of Trans-Thoracic Echocardiography (TTE), Stress Echocardiography, Trans-Esophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Exercise Tolerance Test (ETT), ambulatory ECG (Holter) monitoring, and Ambulatory Blood Pressure monitoring. In addition, exercise related ischemia, abnormality of cardiac rhythm and blood pressure are easily diagnosed in the non-invasive lab.

1. Coronary Angiography

We are well-equipped with machines with latest technology. Hence, our catheterization labs safety record is comparable with any state of the art laboratory facility around the globe.

2. Coronary Angioplasty

Analyzed by skilled and qualified physicians, this diagnostic procedure accurately quantifies the nature and extent of coronary artery disease and helps in selecting medical treatment, PCI or Bypass Surgery.

Our department is among the pioneers to offer permanent pacemaker implantation. Latest and modern pacemakers are being implanted proficiently.
